How in the hell am I going to come up with 436 dollars to pay a fucking red light right turn without completely stopping fine? Of course, I have to get this ticket right around when I need to pay 150 dollars to smog and register my car.

| Competition |
[May. 19th, 2009|08:33 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | annoyed | ] | When did being competitive become an insult in regards to gaming? I'm sick of certain friends of mine bitching and moaning about how when it comes to I take it too seriously. I don't bitch, cry, and moan when I'm loosing. I lost eight straight games of Uno tonight, and you know what? Who cares.
But you better believe I'm gonna call you on rules (hey, I'm cool with reminding you and leaving it be, no "take-backs" or any of that crap. I just think you ought to know..)and if I have a question about the rules or a variant rule or some such issue, I'm gonna ask it. Because I expect everyone to know the rules of whatever game we're playing, and if they don't I would want *them* to ask.
But don't bitch when I start to plot against your ass when you are winning. I don't care if I ask the other players at the table if they have a "reverse" or a "skip". If it means prolonging the game and giving me a better advantage, I'm gonna do it.
I'm going to do my best to win every fucking game I play. Doesn't matter which one. Doesn't mean I'm an asshole about it. I try to be polite, refrain from making a big deal about things, and even let blatant rules violations go (hey sometimes people forget rules, no big deal). But when I sit down across from you, I'm not going to pull punches.
For me the fun in playing a game is attempting to win it. Key word "attempting". Now, I'll be the first to admit, that if there is something about a game I don't like, I'll speak up. If there is game mechanic I think is bullshit, I'll point it out. I'm entitled to my opinion. You're entitled to yours. I hear certain people bitch all the time about games I enjoy, pointing out their "flaws" and whatnot. When you say you didn't like Bioshock, I had to admit my jaw dropped. Got rated 9/10 on game informer, made the best selling list several months in a row, and I personally loved it to death. But hey, you're entitled to your opinion. I was cool with that.
I expect the same courtesy. I am more than willing to "agree to disagree" about gaming opinions or mechanic specifics, but don't look down your noses at me and call me a sore loser or accuse me of being "competetive". Damn right I'm fucking competetive. This is a game, right? Otherwise, why don't I just dump the monopoly box upside down and call it a day.
I dunno, just getting sick of taking shit from my gaming group about that kind of crap. I think I need to stick to co-op games for a while, cuz I'm sick of everyone bitching. |

| A sad day for los angeles radio... |
[Feb. 21st, 2009|11:43 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | sad | ] | Yesterday at 5 PM 97.1 FM talk radio changed formats to a top 40 format.(think KISS).
This made me especially sad. I had been listening to FM talk for as long as they've been on the air in southern california. In a lot of ways it's a soundtrack to my post high school life. I can remember funny events and conversation like they were yesterday. Like the time that Tim Conway Jr. accused his partner Brian Whitman of having a gay crush on Frosty Stillwell and angered him to the point he blew up on air and quit the show.
Good times.
So when they announced they were going off the air on thursday, I made it a point to go to Molly Malone's in Los Angeles and celebrate the last few hours of their broadcast. It was a great event. The place was crowded with so many people, they had to form a line outside the bar because they had reached max capacity. Frank and Heidi came to the bar after their final broadcast to thank the listeners for their support. Making a point to hug everyone in the audience and personally thank them for listening to the station and their show.
It really hit me how bad the economy was when Frank broke down on air and cried while saying his final goodbyes. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. For CBS radio to flip formats when their talk lineup was number one in the demographics across the board for males 18-35 is a true sign that advertising revenues are down because bussinesses don't have the cash to advertise anymore.
I never would have thought that my favorite radio station would be a victim of not poor ratings, but the economy itself.
When I was in high school, I took the armed services vocational apptitude battery, and the results of the test said I should get into broadcasting. Shortly after highschool, I studied radio broadcasting and production in community college. I learned how to edit audio not only with a computer but with tape and a razor old school style. The talk format was what interested me about radio, and the station played a large role in my interest in the radio bussiness, which I still have to this day.
I even visited the station once, and spoke with the producer of the Tim Conway Junior show as part of a class project. He offered me an internship at 97.1 on the Tim Conway show. I didn't take it at the time, because I didn't have the time to work for free, but now I wish I had.
It's a dark day for Los Angeles radio, and I've been tuning up and down the dial, trying to find a replacement that doesn't exist. I can only hope the talent that is now out of work for no other reason than a bad economy, can find a job elsewhere so I can get podcasts.
So yeah, I'm pretty bummed, and at the risk of sounding gay, a little teary to see the people I have listened to for 10+ years gone. I felt like I knew them all. That's a relationship that you can't get with a music station.
RIP FM Talk. I'll miss you. |

| Birthday time around the corner. |
[Sep. 4th, 2008|03:27 pm] |
|
My 30th birthday is around the corner on oct. 20th. It's a big one, it's all downhill biologically speaking from that point on. I will have reached my peak, and come that day, I will begin my slow decent into the grave. Sounds like an excuse to have an awesome party, doesn't it?
Alas, my car needs about four hundred dollars worth of work done on it, I'm having problems with my emissions and or fuel system, and need to get some work done on it as well as a tune up.
I love my Gin, but if everybody who showed up to my birthday party last year with a bottle of gin gave me the cash equivalent this year, I'd be in a good position to start getting some work on my car done. After all, without a car I cannot make the commute from Upland to Monrovia to work, and that would result in one poor and homeless Eyrick.
Official invites will be sent out via email within the next two weeks, to be sure you get your invite, please make sure to leave your email address below in case it has changed. Comments will be viewable by myself only.
You won't want to miss it, it will be rockband tastic.

| What Have You |
[Aug. 16th, 2008|10:57 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | amused | ] | I had a lovely morning. Aside from being sick with some sort of head cold (left nostril stuffed and my left ear has pressure behind it I haven't been able to pop for two days) it couldn't have been better.
I got up early because I couldn't sleep to well, so after a five thirty a.m. trip to walgreens for cold medicine, I sat down and decided to have a mini Cohen Brother's film festival. I started out with "O! Brother Where Art Thou?" and ended with "The Big Lebowski".
I must admit it's been a while since I've watched Lebowski, but I'm glad I did. It never seems to get old, and even after what must be hundreds of viewings it's still my favorite film of all time.
So much so in fact, that after watching it, I had a desire to go bowling and drink a caucasion.
One of these days I really must make it to a Lebowskifest. I think Los Angeles is due for another one very soon.
Also, I want this. |

| Repo the Genetic Opera |
[Jul. 24th, 2008|09:11 pm] |
I really want to see this film adaption of the musical when it comes out.
It's got Ogre from skinny puppy in it, is done by the director of the saw films, and is a weird cyberpunk/goth type setting. Unfortunatly it also has Paris Hilton, but from what little I've seen in the trailers and heard in the song samples she doesn't seem that bad.

| The Great Monte Cristo Roundup Part One |
[Jun. 28th, 2008|08:42 pm] |
This morning I drove out to Glendora and dined at Flappy Jack's pancake house and ordered, of course, the monte cristo. It was delicious, although I must admit I was extremely disapointed to find that it wasn't served with the traditional side of fresh fruit or preserves for dipping. The best that was offered was the small individual packages of smuckers that such diners usually reserve for toast. Adequate, I suppose, but it took a lot of the charm out of the plating and left me feeling somewhat disapointed.
The meat of the sandwich was warm, and the cheese was gooey and melty. Which is good, because one of the things I absolutely don't like about a poorly executed 'cristo is a cold center.
I polished off the whole thing. As a bonus, it was served with a bowl of french onion soup which was really tasty, and some french fries, as if the cholesterol content of the sandwhich wasn't enough already.
I shall have to have occastion to try the 'Cristo at Millies next. The take-out plan for the disneyland 'Cristo sounds plausible, it definatly merits more research.
It occurs to me I should have taken a photo. I shall have to go back and order another one at a later date. |

| [ | mood |
| | relaxed | ] | Let me preface this by saying that my resolution to update daily has failed miserably. I just don't have enough material to warrant daily updates. So, in order to accomodate the general lack of anything interesting going on in my life, I've decided to go with a "quality over quantity" approach to updating.
While I was at work, parked on a residential street in Arcadia, I managed to make a new friend. It was a very friendly peacock who insisted on eating all my tortilla chips. He ate them right out of my hands, and apparently that didn't sate his hunger, for he began to slowly peck at the ambulance tires. I suppose they must have looked especially tasty that day, though I can't say I've ever been moved to attempt to eat them. I spent a half hour with my new friend, whom was named "Mr. Bojangles":
I am slightly disapointed to see that Penn Jillete was voted off of "Dancing With The Stars" in week two. But at least Adam Corolla and Shannon Elizabeth are still in the compitition. I've altered my voting accordingly. Incidentally, I saw "The Hammer" and was pleasantly surprised at Corolla's film. Both Beth and I enjoyed it.
"Ghost Hunters" on the Sci-Fi channel is one of my newest guilty pleasures. I especially love the episodes where they spend a night investigating a place, only to debunk everything and leave empty handed. Beth cannot tolerate this show, so I have resorted to watching it in the bedroom. "Destination Truth", a sort of cryptozoology version of ghost hunters, is also similarly appealing, even though he never finds anything (save for the yeti footprint that the host swears by).
The new season of Hell's kitchen has begun, and it's too early to make a judgement call about the quality of the season, though Gordon Ramsey yelling at the contestants really can't fail in my book. It was discovered at a fairly recent tip to the disneyland resort that Rachel and I share a passion for crap television. I would like to say, for the record, that I vastly prefer "Hell's Kitchen" over "America's Next Top Chef."
In addition to having a level 70 Shadow Priest in World of Warcraft on the Draka server, I now have a level 56 Hunter on the same server. I'll be heading to Outlands with her soon, hopefully by tuesday. A few of my haunt friends have started a guild on the Coilfang PVP server, with limited success. I have a level 13 rogue there that I am not particularly enthusiastic about playing.
That about wraps it up for this update. Stay tuned, when next week I take on the nefarious world wide terrorist syndicate "Cobra". |

| | Tim Conway Jr. 97.1 FM | ] | Okay, I'm going to attempt to update daily again, not like anyone reads this though. Well, maybe one or two people do.
Today was rather productive. Spent the better part of the day in between calls converting .avi files to .vob files and burning them to a dvd so they'll play in any DVD player. I had downloaded a few movies, and decided to convert them to a format I could more easily share with others. It's hard to gather friends around a computer or desktop on a tiny screen (compared to the size of a television).
So the movies that I downloaded were "The Proposition" which is a really good western set in Australia and the screenplay and soundtrack was written by Nick Cave. I also downloaded the film noir classic "The Big Heat", "Juno" and "Walk Hard: The Story of Dewey Cox" (I think you'd get a lot of the jokes in that one readysteadystop).
But that wasn't good enough for me. I downloaded a clone of delicious library called Libra and proceded to, when I got home around four, to catalog EVERY SINGLE DVD in my collection into the damn database, which is a pretty difficult feat since about a third of my DVD collection are 1950s B Movies, and I had to write the plot synopsis information in by hand.
Almost done with it. Got a handfull of B-Movies to add in and that should wrap it up until my next five movies finish downloading. Just to give you a taste:
Citizen Kane (Because everyone should own this film)
Ghosts of the Civil Dead (Another Nick Cave film)
In the Land of Women (it wasn't a bad movie, and it has Adam Brody from the OC in it)
Return to House on Haunted Hill (Because I heard it was phenominally bad, and it has 'Hailey' from the OC in it.
Good Luck Chuck (No particular reason, not like I'm paying for it. Dane cook can be pretty funny when he's not kissing his fans ass "I love all my fans!!!" *puke*)
So that's all I'm writing for tonight. More to come tomorrow. |
