How in the hell am I going to come up with 436 dollars to pay a fucking red light right turn without completely stopping fine? Of course, I have to get this ticket right around when I need to pay 150 dollars to smog and register my car.

Competition
M*A*S*H
[info]zombieoreilly
When did being competitive become an insult in regards to gaming? I'm sick of certain friends of mine bitching and moaning about how when it comes to I take it too seriously. I don't bitch, cry, and moan when I'm loosing. I lost eight straight games of Uno tonight, and you know what? Who cares.

But you better believe I'm gonna call you on rules (hey, I'm cool with reminding you and leaving it be, no "take-backs" or any of that crap. I just think you ought to know..)and if I have a question about the rules or a variant rule or some such issue, I'm gonna ask it. Because I expect everyone to know the rules of whatever game we're playing, and if they don't I would want *them* to ask.

But don't bitch when I start to plot against your ass when you are winning. I don't care if I ask the other players at the table if they have a "reverse" or a "skip". If it means prolonging the game and giving me a better advantage, I'm gonna do it.

I'm going to do my best to win every fucking game I play. Doesn't matter which one. Doesn't mean I'm an asshole about it. I try to be polite, refrain from making a big deal about things, and even let blatant rules violations go (hey sometimes people forget rules, no big deal). But when I sit down across from you, I'm not going to pull punches.

For me the fun in playing a game is attempting to win it. Key word "attempting". Now, I'll be the first to admit, that if there is something about a game I don't like, I'll speak up. If there is game mechanic I think is bullshit, I'll point it out. I'm entitled to my opinion. You're entitled to yours. I hear certain people bitch all the time about games I enjoy, pointing out their "flaws" and whatnot. When you say you didn't like Bioshock, I had to admit my jaw dropped. Got rated 9/10 on game informer, made the best selling list several months in a row, and I personally loved it to death. But hey, you're entitled to your opinion. I was cool with that.

I expect the same courtesy. I am more than willing to "agree to disagree" about gaming opinions or mechanic specifics, but don't look down your noses at me and call me a sore loser or accuse me of being "competetive". Damn right I'm fucking competetive. This is a game, right? Otherwise, why don't I just dump the monopoly box upside down and call it a day.

I dunno, just getting sick of taking shit from my gaming group about that kind of crap. I think I need to stick to co-op games for a while, cuz I'm sick of everyone bitching.

A sad day for los angeles radio...
Al
[info]zombieoreilly
Yesterday at 5 PM 97.1 FM talk radio changed formats to a top 40 format.(think KISS).

This made me especially sad. I had been listening to FM talk for as long as they've been on the air in southern california. In a lot of ways it's a soundtrack to my post high school life. I can remember funny events and conversation like they were yesterday. Like the time that Tim Conway Jr. accused his partner Brian Whitman of having a gay crush on Frosty Stillwell and angered him to the point he blew up on air and quit the show.

Good times.

So when they announced they were going off the air on thursday, I made it a point to go to Molly Malone's in Los Angeles and celebrate the last few hours of their broadcast. It was a great event. The place was crowded with so many people, they had to form a line outside the bar because they had reached max capacity. Frank and Heidi came to the bar after their final broadcast to thank the listeners for their support. Making a point to hug everyone in the audience and personally thank them for listening to the station and their show.

It really hit me how bad the economy was when Frank broke down on air and cried while saying his final goodbyes. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. For CBS radio to flip formats when their talk lineup was number one in the demographics across the board for males 18-35 is a true sign that advertising revenues are down because bussinesses don't have the cash to advertise anymore.

I never would have thought that my favorite radio station would be a victim of not poor ratings, but the economy itself.

When I was in high school, I took the armed services vocational apptitude battery, and the results of the test said I should get into broadcasting. Shortly after highschool, I studied radio broadcasting and production in community college. I learned how to edit audio not only with a computer but with tape and a razor old school style. The talk format was what interested me about radio, and the station played a large role in my interest in the radio bussiness, which I still have to this day.

I even visited the station once, and spoke with the producer of the Tim Conway Junior show as part of a class project. He offered me an internship at 97.1 on the Tim Conway show. I didn't take it at the time, because I didn't have the time to work for free, but now I wish I had.

It's a dark day for Los Angeles radio, and I've been tuning up and down the dial, trying to find a replacement that doesn't exist. I can only hope the talent that is now out of work for no other reason than a bad economy, can find a job elsewhere so I can get podcasts.

So yeah, I'm pretty bummed, and at the risk of sounding gay, a little teary to see the people I have listened to for 10+ years gone. I felt like I knew them all. That's a relationship that you can't get with a music station.

RIP FM Talk. I'll miss you.

Birthday time around the corner.

My 30th birthday is around the corner on oct. 20th. It's a big one, it's all downhill biologically speaking from that point on. I will have reached my peak, and come that day, I will begin my slow decent into the grave. Sounds like an excuse to have an awesome party, doesn't it?

Alas, my car needs about four hundred dollars worth of work done on it, I'm having problems with my emissions and or fuel system, and need to get some work done on it as well as a tune up.

I love my Gin, but if everybody who showed up to my birthday party last year with a bottle of gin gave me the cash equivalent this year, I'd be in a good position to start getting some work on my car done. After all, without a car I cannot make the commute from Upland to Monrovia to work, and that would result in one poor and homeless Eyrick.

Official invites will be sent out via email within the next two weeks, to be sure you get your invite, please make sure to leave your email address below in case it has changed. Comments will be viewable by myself only.

You won't want to miss it, it will be rockband tastic.

What Have You

I had a lovely morning. Aside from being sick with some sort of head cold (left nostril stuffed and my left ear has pressure behind it I haven't been able to pop for two days) it couldn't have been better.

I got up early because I couldn't sleep to well, so after a five thirty a.m. trip to walgreens for cold medicine, I sat down and decided to have a mini Cohen Brother's film festival. I started out with "O! Brother Where Art Thou?" and ended with "The Big Lebowski".

I must admit it's been a while since I've watched Lebowski, but I'm glad I did. It never seems to get old, and even after what must be hundreds of viewings it's still my favorite film of all time.

So much so in fact, that after watching it, I had a desire to go bowling and drink a caucasion.

One of these days I really must make it to a Lebowskifest. I think Los Angeles is due for another one very soon.

Also, I want this.

Repo the Genetic Opera

I really want to see this film adaption of the musical when it comes out.

It's got Ogre from skinny puppy in it, is done by the director of the saw films, and is a weird cyberpunk/goth type setting. Unfortunatly it also has Paris Hilton, but from what little I've seen in the trailers and heard in the song samples she doesn't seem that bad.
